On the ocean side, everything is about wind and salt. Palms dominate, live oaks are wind-flagged and low, and pruning is mostly about removing dead fronds, seed pods, and anything that could become a projectile. Nothing tall or brittle survives long enough to become a problem.

Cross A1A to the river side and you are in a different world — mature live oaks, cabbage palms, red cedar, and in the older lots some big laurel oaks that were left when the properties were cleared. Those are the trees that need real structural attention: deadwood cleaning, weight reduction on limbs reaching over roofs, and honest assessment of the ones showing decay.

Crescent Beach lots tend to be deep and narrow with a single driveway, and many river-side properties have a long approach with mature trees on both sides. There is often nowhere for a chipper truck to turn around, which means we stage equipment carefully and sometimes run a longer rope than we would elsewhere.

A1A itself is the other factor. Any work overhanging the highway needs traffic management and is best done early in the day, particularly in season when the beach traffic picks up.

The stretch near Matanzas Inlet takes weather hard. Overwash from surge events has reshaped dunes here more than once, and trees rooted in that sand carry the consequences. When we assess a Crescent Beach property after a storm we look specifically for undercut root plates and salt intrusion, not just broken limbs.

Pre-season work matters here as much as anywhere in the county: palms cleaned in spring, overhanging limbs reduced, and any tree with a previous failure looked at properly before June.
